Tech-savvy parents can now obtain their children's PSR (Penilaian Sekolah Rendah) exam results through SMS instead of doing it the old-fashioned way, thanks to modern technology collaboration between the Ministry of Education, DST Communications Sdn Bhd (DSTCom), b.Mobile Sdn Bhd and Mach Telecommunications Systems Sdn Bhd (MachTel).

For instant results, parents will have to register through the Ministry of Education portal at www.moe.edu.bn or through mobile phone (SMS) by typing MOEREGspacespace and sending it to 8885555 - starting from Nov 10, 2008.

Registrations through SMS services, however, are available for DSTCom subscribers only and for each PSR result received through SMS, subscribers will be charged $3.

This new service is available for students sitting for PSR exams this year and is part of the Ministry of Education's efforts in increasing value added services for the public - in support of e-Government initiatives.

With the introduction of this new service, diskettes will no longer be made available to the public.

A briefing on the new SMS service was held yesterday at Sekolah Rendah Rimba 1 for all principals from lower government and private schools throughout the nation.

More than 200 headmasters and headmistress, along with officers from the Ministry of Education, attended the briefing conducted by the Acting Director of Examinations, Awg Hj Muhd Masa Masdi bin Muhd Sa'idun and the Acting Director of Information Technology and Communication, Awg Hj Abd Rahim bin Derus.

The principals and officers were briefed on the background and terms and conditions of the service where correct and accurate information are advised to be entered during registration to avoid any problems.

Successful registration will be notified via SMS to the subscriber at no cost.

Meanwhile, to receive the PSR exam results through SMS, pre-paid mobile subscriber are advised to ensure that there is sufficient credit to receive the SMS result.

SMS result will not be received if there is insufficient credit on the phone.

The SMS result is also the propriety of the Ministry of Education and thus the forwarding of SMS result will not be permitted.

This service, examination results via SMS, is provided by the Ministry of Education through the Department of Examinations and managed by its Department of Information and Communications Technology with the collaboration of DSTCom and b.Mobile Sdn Bhd as the mobile service provider and MachTel as the technical facilitator in providing the development, integration of the SMS result application to the mobile service providers and provisioning of the service.
